First things first. We NEVER recommend purchasing points UNLESS you have a specific redemption AND it’s cheaper than paying full price.
Now that we got that out-of-the-way, there is one points currency we purchase once a year.
That’s SPG points!
WHY? SPG points are the MOST valuable points currency of ANY frequent flyer or hotel program.
Why is that?
OK! Why the why’s?!?
- You can transfer 20k SPG points to MANY airlines FF programs, like Alaska, Delta and get a 5k bonus, for 25k bonus to that airline program, 20K SPG = 25K Airline program
- SPG has frequently lower redemption rates
- SPG points can transfer to Marriott points for a 1-3 value. 1,000 SPG is 3,000 Marriott.
For us, it just makes sense to buy SPG points because we can transfer them to SO many different airline programs. We also find many different properties where paying for the points and redeeming them is CHEAPER than paying for a stay.
Right now, through tomorrow, the bonus is 35% or get 30,000 SPG points for $682.50.
Once again, only purchase if it makes sense for you! Points purchased with a Chase or AmEx card will NOT code as 2x or 3x as the transaction is processed by points.
