Hotel Review: SPG Naka Island, A Luxury Collection Hotel Phuket…In 360° Virtual Reality

I think the picture says it all, FINALLY, I’m here, Phuket!

Whenever you visit Thailand it’s almost a requirement to take a trip to one of their beach cities.  In my opinion, Phuket is one of the most popular.

In this hotel review we take a look at The Naka Island Luxury Collection, a SPG property.

Picture it… November, 2015.  Mitch and I are planning our vacations for 2016.  Of course a trip to Thailand is in order, but where do we go?  We’ve been to Phuket a bunch of times with the most recent being earlier in 2016 renting an AWESOME Air BNB house with our friends, but this trip was different.

Phuket is Thailand’s biggest island located in the southern part.  It offers many different scenes from bustling night life to calm white-sand beaches.

We searched for months for the perfect location in Phuket for our recent trip and came across this gem, The Naka Island, a SPG Luxury Collection property!

While searching the internet, it was hard finding info on this location and of course those reviews on TripAdvisor are worthless to me (people complaining in hopes of getting some type of compensation).  So, on a wing and a prayer we booked and crossed our fingers!

Little did we know we were in for a memorable experience!  In today’s post, I want to focus just on our villa.  On the next post we will focus on the resort and other features of the property!  Yeah, so nice, it’s a two post exclusive!

First, let’s start with getting to Naka Island.

After arrival at HKT airport and a 20 minute cab ride you will arrive at the marina where a porter will help with your bags to the boat dock.

You will then board the speed boat with water and cold towels!

Then a quick boat ride gets us to Naka in about 10 minutes, or less!

Upon arrival at Naka, a golf cart is waiting to take you to your room!

But first, a quick stop where you will be asked to ring the gong, for good luck and fortune of course!

Then a welcome drink of chilled lemon grass tea and a traditional Thai Malai or lei.

Finally, we’re on our way to the villa to complete our check in process.

As you walk in and see your view, you are just in aw of what you are about to experience.

Each villa is around 4,000 sq feet (you read that right).  It has a bedroom, bathroom, shower/steam room, soaking tub and private plunge pool.

There are four different types of villas.  From garden view to ocean access to the full on what I would consider a house villa.  You can find the different property types by clicking here.

The favorite features of our villa included the Bose sound system with an iPod dock and an iPod loaded with tons of music that you could put on your deck as you swim in your plunge pool.

The complimentary snacks of dried fruit if you get hungry.

The endless supply of free bottled water.

The fully loaded bathroom: from toothbrushes, to robes and soaps, it had everything you could need.

Your private shower/steam room was by far the best feature.

Not to be outdone by your own private plunge pool.

If you do need snacks, there is a mini-bar located in each room with prices.

Here’s a video of Polrit taking you on a tour of our villa, number 57.

Now, we will take you on a 360 view of the entire villa.

Overall thoughts?

The Naka Island SPG is a fantastic property if you are looking for the low key, non-party life of Phuket.  They don’t nickle and dime you over extras (which we will post about next) and the villas are well worth the price.

The part that bothered me the most was the reviews I read on TripAdvisor of how the attitude of the staff was not friendly.  Those reviews are LIES!  Downright LIES!  Not once was anyone rude or any request not fulfilled.  The staff at Naka Island went out of their way MULTIPLE times to ensure our comfort and happiness.  The level of attention and detail by the staff is beyond measurable.  EVERY time I encountered someone from their staff, I was greeted with a smile and asked if they could help in anyway!  SERIOUSLY!  In my opinion the staff at Naka Island were the highlight of the property and made the difference in the overall experience.
