It always seems to be the joke when you turn 50, “did you get your AARP card?” All joking aside, I’m proud of the fact that I have one and I’m no where near 50. Why? Because it’s loaded with tons of discounts!
Anyone under 50 can join AARP and have an associate membership for $16 a year. You still get all of the great discount offers. It’s the best $16 a year I’ve spent. Seriously!
Below we take a look at our top 5 favorite discounts that an AARP membership will get you.
#5 Big Discounts on Rental Cars
Avis, Budget, Payless and Zipcar are just some of the great rental car companies that you can get a great discount! Make sure to read the terms and conditions for each rental car company.
#4 More Walgreens Rewards Points
There is nothing wrong with getting more points, from anyone! That’s where Walgreens has a good deal with AARP.
- 50 points for every $1 spent on Walgreens brand health & wellness products
- 1.5x points for the healthy choices you make every day
- 100 points per prescription or 300 points per 90-day
- NEW! Earn points for prescriptions covered under Medicare Part D
#3 Discounted Hotels, Hotels, HOTELS!
There are over 30+ hotel brands that offer an AARP discount. Our favorite? SPG! You can save anywhere from 5% – 15% on participating brands through the end of the year!
#2 A free Doughnut at Dunkin’ and 15% off at Outback
I’ve never heard complaints when it comes to free doughnuts! Buy a large beverage and get a free doughnut at Dunkin’! You can also save 15% off your total bill at Outback Steakhouse! Not a bad discount!
#1 British Airways $400 off Business Class
This deal is the money saver with an AARP membership. It has saved us a ton of money of BA flights. A few times a year, BA has a business class sale on flights. We’ve blogged about this before and the amazing deal where we got round trip business for $1,000! You can read that old post by clicking here.
What’s great is this is on each ticket you buy, so with this last purchase it saved us $800! Not bad for a $16 membership! Also, AARP has extended this discount on BA through the end of the year. With the recent “Brexit” we have a feeling more discounted fares from BA are to come, according to this article here. So now is a good time to get your AARP membership for when BA rolls around another business class fare sale, you are set to save!
You can see the full list of all discounts offered by being an AARP member by clicking here. So go ahead and make some jokes, but I’ll be laughing all the way to the bank with my savings!
