Here at Seat2Asuite.com we want to welcome you to a new feature of weekly posts. We call it Toblerone Tuesday. Remember the scene in View From the Top where the girls are on a sit and the big airline has a mechanical? “Didn’t you want to get a Toblerone from the gift shop?”
Well, in this series of posts over the next few weeks we are going to take a look at some fabulous things you can do in what could be considered boring layover cities to keep you from slam clicking! We want to give you a few ideas on where to pick up your “Toblerone!”
“Ladies and gentlemen we’d like to welcome you to
Salt Lake City international airport!”
Salt Lake City, known for it’s close proximity to some great ski resorts, the headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and where most things are closed on Sunday. Seems SLC has seen some growth over the past few years with more people coming through the city. Here are a few of our favorite spots when we have a layover in SLC.
Enjoy a true Belgium Waffle
When I wake up in SLC after a layover I take a quick walk to one of my favorite places, Bruges Waffles & Frites. Having been to Belgium multiple times I consider myself to be an expert on Belgium waffles. So much in fact that this place is as close to a true authentic Belgium waffle as you can get, in my opinion.
I’ve talked with the owner and he is of course from Brugge (Bruges), Belgium. Great guy with a true passion for making the perfect Belgium Waffle. I usually get the vanilla topped with strawberries and crème fraîche! YUM!
After I have my waffle, I order a couple to go and freeze them when I get home and warm them up in the toaster over later. Bruges Waffles & Frites has a few locations around SLC. They can be a bit pricey, but they are well wroth it!
Late lunch, early dinner?
My new favorite find for a late lunch or early dinner is a place called Blue Lemon. They are located right outside the mall at 55 West South Temple. With an extensive menu of fresh sandwiches, soups and salads it’s hard to make a bad decision.
I really enjoy their mango mint chicken salad. Comes with big chunks of mango and avocados! Not a bad choice with a side of the tomato soup.
An amazing grocery store experience?!
I’ll admit it, one of my favorite things to do whenever I travel is visit grocery stores. You learn so much! After finding Harmons, I think I’ve found my new favorite grocery store!
Located just on the other side of the mall, a quick walk will get you there, however they do have multiple locations. With an extensive hot food and salad bar you can’t go wrong here! If you are on a 3 or 4 day trip, make sure to stock up on fresh food and deli favorites.
They have a huge upstairs area to hang out and eat. So many options, you’ll want to spend some time shopping around.
Not all layovers have to be a slam, click and sleep! As you can see there are some great places in SLC!
