It was the 80’s and life was great! Every Sunday the newspaper would come with TONS of coupons. Do you remember sitting around with mom and grandma clipping those coupons? Those days may be long gone, but there’s a new, modern way to “cut” coupons, but you won’t need any scissors!
I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials for Ebates! Promising cash back for purchases you make online, but how does it all work? Today we want to share with you how to get some cashback from modern day coupons! First, a quick history lesson.
The cashback website business model came into existence in the 90’s and has become today’s hottest thing in online shopping. You can actually save thousands of dollars, making it rain, through cashback online shopping. By clicking through a cashback portal online, you not only get your favorite retailer product at a discount but a “double dip” chance to earn more money while shopping. Retailers pay cashback sites for every lead or click through to their site and these cashback sites drive more traffic towards them to increase their sales. Cashback sites follow a simple business model by sharing the “lead commission” with you!
Pretty easy concept, but where do you start?
OK, let’s say I found this Michael Kors bag I’ve been wanting online at Macy’s.com.
Wow! $233.50 isn’t cheap and I may still have to pay for shipping and tax! Let’s see if we can make that better!
One of my favorite Cashback portals is TopCashBack.com they are pretty straight forward and easy to navigate. So, let’s start there.
Before I click on Macy’s.com, I’ll want to navigate over to www.topcashback.com
Once there, I’ll search for Macy’s and see what the current offer is:
As you can see, 6% back isn’t bad at all! For $233 I’ll get back about $14.00. Not bad for just clicking through a portal site to get some cash back! Are you ready to retire your scissors yet?
However, I think we can do better and here’s how!
Any time I’m going to make a purchase online, I always head over to www.cashbackmonitor.com Think of this as a tell all site of where to see all portal offers.
As you can see, BeFrugal.com has a better cashback rate of 10% !!!
But what if I didn’t want cashback, what if I wanted airline miles or hotel points?
As you can see many travel companies offer their own “portals” where they will give you rewards. If I were to click through the Delta.com portal I’d get 2x the SkyMiles on my Macy’s.com purchase giving me 466 Delta SkyMiles.
The choice is all yours! Cashback or airline miles!
There are a few things that are excluded, so you’ll want to read the full offers on each portal site. I’m partial to www.topcashback.com They are pretty simple and usually have one of the best cashback offers.
Tomorrow we will share our Ultimate Portal Stacking Story, how we saved $60+ off a new Tumi Bag!
So, have you been using cashback portals? If so, which ones are your favorite! let us know in the comments!
